Dispatches from the Distancing – Days 177-183 AND Saturday Snapshot

Well, this is it. The last weeknight evening of our summer vacation. I asked the kids what their favorite thing about this summer was. Chris said it was going to the zoo and Lillie said it was going to Dairy Queen. So, there you go.

If you’ve been following the news, you know that summer is not ending on a good note here in Oregon. Half of the population of the state is either under a watch or evacuated due to fires. I have a social media friend whose town (Phoenix, Oregon…in the southern part of the state) no longer exists. Luckily her house is still standing, but I’m not sure if they can be back in the house yet. The Chehalem Mountain fire is only a few miles from our house and we know people who have had to leave their homes. While our house is safe, we are blanketed in smoke. I normally do pictures from this day in past years, but the only picture I’ll share tonight is one I took two nights ago of the view from our front yard.

This weekend will be a low key one. The air quality is so bad that we can’t be outside for more than a few minutes, so we’ll mostly be sticking close to home. Please keep Oregon (and the whole West Coast) in your thoughts.
