Before I get into this week’s Saturday Snapshot, I wanted to apologize for my absence last week.  I normally write these posts up on Friday and, all of last Friday, our internet was down.  It did come up again sometime later on Friday evening, but I was out of town all of Saturday and just didn’t have the opportunity to get that post out. I realize that my life would be much easier if I planned ahead a bit more and wrote up these posts earlier, but what can I say? I fly by the seat of my pants.

Now, onto this week.  We’re still back in Spring Break and we’re picking up right after our Fort Bowie hike that was the subject of my last Saturday Snapshot post.

After we finished our hike back to the car from Fort Bowie and ate a quick picnic lunch, we headed south to Chiricahua National Monument.  This was another site that we had never heard of before that day but, since we were so close, why not check it out?

Chiricahua was the home of the Apaches, the tribe my husband thinks was the terror of the Old West.  While I agree that they were more bellicose than some tribes, I welcomed a chance for my husband to see them as people instead of big baddies (a few days earlier, he spent about half an hour chatting with an Apache woman, not knowing until later, that she was Apache).  For this trip, we mostly stuck to the scenic drive.  Not only had we tapped out the kids’ patience for hiking that day, but my daughter was experience the trials and tribulations of high altitudes.  But, even though we mostly stayed in the car, the views were worth the drive.  Perhaps, in a future visit, we may explore the trails.  After all, it’s always good to have a reason to return.
